BRNch
we finally got around to having a proper streetside brunch at bunte republik neustadt this year. it comprised delicious home-made bagels (courtesy of the daring bakers recipe via this blog) and bunch of different cream cheesy concoctions: blueberry with orange zest; maple and walnut; kalamata olive and thyme; sun-dried tomato and basil; and plain old chive. lovely lovely.

Can you tell me more about this street-side brunching? I find the concept intriguing...

hello there valerie foh,
i can indeed tell you more, although i'm afraid the reality may disappoint.
so bunte republik neustadt is this street festival thingo that hannah may have told you about. it is three days of madness on my doorstep and is occasionally quite some fun. i believe it started out as something of a subversive community type affair back when the federal republic was being formed. more recently it has fallen prey to commercial hackery and out-of-towners. but one of the really nice non-commercial bits happens on sunday morning, when everyone is exhausted from playing too much, and the city drags its kitchen furniture into the street to partake of brunch together.
we had never gotten our asses into gear before, but this year i was determined! and it was worth the wait.
ta-da!

They should close off the streets of Neustadt to cars every Sunday morning/afternoon. It wouldn't be long before everybody was doing this every Sunday. Wouldn't that be lovely?
they should close of the streets of neustadt to cars full-stop.
and by of i mean off.
and by full-stop i mean period.
